The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) says he has banned the party’s official campaign song ‘Onaapo’ in his house.
Mr. Owusu Obimpeh said he suffers heart attack anytime he hears the song being played on the airwaves after their humiliating defeat in the 2016 general elections.
“Onaapo” which in the Ga language which means ‘you won’t even get’ was the NDC’s official campaign song for last year’s elections.
But it became popular after the defeat of the then ruling party when supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) adopted it as their victory song after their leader Nana Akufo-Addo won unprecedentedly by a margin of over one million votes.
The Onaapo song went viral when hiplife musician Barima Sidney made the NPP version of the song by titled “Time Aso” uploaded on YouTube on December 9, 2016, two days after the election with over two hundred thousand views.
Based on this background, Chairman Obimpeh on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme said Onaapo is the last song he wants to hear on earth.
“When I hear Onaapo song which is now the favourite song of NPP members being played on radio or TV, my heart aches” he bemoaned.
The NDC Ashanti Regional Chairman disclosed that the NPP‘s rendition of Onaapo even made their defeat very painful.
Chairman Obimpeh said he has been able to survive when he decided to stop listening radio and watching TV.
