Fast rising reggae/dancehall musician, Michael O. Mint better known by the stage name Jupitar has eulogised CEO of Slip Music, Mark Okraku-Mantey for labelling the former as the best dancehall artiste in Ghana.
According to the ‘Fire’ hitmaker, Okraku Mantey perceives the meaning of what music is all about and agrees with him completely.
Jupitar noted that he is the only artiste doing dancehall in Ghana because other acts in their quest to make it commercial, blend the genre with others.
“If you judge me, you can tell I’m doing hundred percent dancehall. They try to make it look more commercial and name it ‘Afro-dancehall’. There is nothing like ‘Afro-dancehall’. Can I say we have ‘Afro-R&B’? Dancehall is dancehall. Whatever Mark Okraku-Mantey said, I’m not surprised. He knows music… I really appreciate it, I’m privileged and humbled.
“He is rather throwing a challenge to people who misunderstood what dancehall really is so they listen to what I’m doing and understand clearly that I can match any dancehall artiste in Jamaica or worldwide,” Jupitar told GhanaWeb.
Okraku-Mantey in an interview on Starr FM revered Jupitar’s consistency in churning out good dancehall tunes for which reason he chose the ‘Dancehall General’ over Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy.
“Surprisingly, Shatta Wale calls himself a dancehall king, but go through his songs. For the past two to three years, the young man has not been doing dancehall. So it becomes difficult, but if you ask me, I think I like Jupitar. Stonebwoy is doing well but he is not a hard core dancehall artiste, he is not doing dancehall, he’s doing reggae. With brands, if you dilute it, it becomes difficult telling people where you belong. Jupitar has been consistent where he is,” Okraku-Mantey noted.
Days after CEO of Slip Music, Mark Okraku Mantey described Shatta Wale as not doing Dancehall music in an interview with Bola Ray on Starr Chat, the latter has descended heavily on the Music producer.
Shatta Wale sent out strong words to warn Okraku to stay off his music career on any radio interview. He therefore advised the Hitz FM Programs Director to focus on his highlife and not dancehall.
“Don’t be silly …. this should be the last time you will talk about my matter on radio since you don’t cloth me nor feed me..
“Deal with Highlife not dancehall music… Do you know what Dancehall is?”
He added that “The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. Ghana music industry don’t need you. Lord Kenya regrets because you didn’t show him the right way. When you are asked who is the Dancehall artiste in Ghana, don’t call my name, If I’m not a dancehall artiste how does that concern you. Jupiter, Stonebwoy passed through me but we don’t brag with that.”
