The founder of the International God’s Way Church, Bishop Daniel Obinim has been charged with asssault for causing physical abuse, contrary to section 4 of the Domestic Violence and Victims’ Support Unit (DOVVSU) Act.
He was charged with two others.
They were all granted bail at GHc10,000 with one surety to be justified, by an Accra Circuit Court. They are to reappear in court on November 24, 2016.
Bishop Obinim earlier this year was captured on video thrashing two teenagers in open church for having premarital sex, which led to the girl getting pregnant.
The teenagers, his adopted children, were restrained by two of Obinim’s aides in church as he flogged them. The two have been charged with abetment.
Bishop Obinim justified his actions quoting Proverbs 13 versus 24 which says; whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them.
“If it were your child, would you sit there for them to spoil? The kids are by my side, should I throw them out for this or what? Do not speak about things you don’t understand.
“What would majority of Ghanaians have done in this case? If it had been your child, who had done something so immoral, would you have left them to go astray – a 14 year old girl and 16 year old boy,” he queried.
