Ghana Women’s League Board (WLB) has announced April 29, 2017 as the new date for the commencement of the fifth National Women’s National League (NWL).
The feminine edition of the domestic league which is considered as a huge step towards developing the women’s game was earlier scheduled to come off on April 15.
Deputy Chairperson for the Women’s League Board, Roselyn Amoh, in an interview with Starr Sports in Accra explained that this has become necessary as a result of the late coach Sam Arday’s final funeral rites which come off on April 6.
“Coach Sam Arday’s funeral comes off next week and looking at the role he and other departed coaches have played in women’s football, we decided to seek approval from the GFA if we could reschedule our matches,” she mentioned.
Roselyn Amoh, who revealed that 2017 NWL will maintain its 16-club two zones form, added that “the Super Cup which is played to usher in the new season will come off on April 22 to make way for the league to commence on April 29.”
Meanwhile, the Club Licensing Board has banned Police Ladies, Samaria Ladies and Ashtown Ladies from using their home venues for the fifth edition of the Women’s League. The venues have been deemed not to meet the required standards of the league.
