SOME personnel of National Service Scheme (NSS) nationwide have threatened to abandon their posts by Friday March 24, 2017 if government fails to implement the 60% increment in allowance of personnel announced by the previous government.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) government approved the amount of GH¢559.04 to be paid to National Service Personnel (NSP) as monthly allowance starting January 1, 2017.
The reviewed amount represented a 60 percent increment of GH¢350 which was contained in a statement signed by Finance Ministry’s Chief Director, Patrick Nomo who directed the Auditor-General to conduct an audit of the new rate to enable payment to start as scheduled.
But the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) after assuming office failed to implement the 60% increment in allowance of personnel.
A statement signed in Accra by leaders of the Concerned National Service Personnel who are Agyei Samuel, Oboobi Emmanuel, Bance Salifu and Frank Yirenkyi-Danso and copied to
Today stressed that the personnel will abandon their duty posts in both public and private institutions if government fails to pay them.
“We are seriously angered by the way the government is handling the issue of our allowance and we think we have been taken for granted for long,” the statement added.
According to the statement, “it is only appropriate that even if government cannot satisfy the needs of the about 72000 personnel nationwide, it is important they communicate with us officially”.
The statement called on NSP nationwide to adhere to their communique and abandon their posts by Friday, March 24 2017 if no proper communication emanates from the government
