NPRAs Second Zonal Office Opened

The National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA) has opened its second zonal office in Tamale after the first was established in Kumasi.

A statement copied to the Ghana News Agency said the new office would to cater for the three northern regions, namely, the Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions.

The Board Chairman of the Authority said the opening of the Tamale office demonstrated the Authority’s efforts to decentralise its activities; create awareness and bring pension operations closer to workers and its stakeholders.

He said despite the difficulties and challenges, the support of all stakeholders would help the Authority build a robust pension industry in Ghana.

He said the organisation was dedicated to safeguard pension funds and that the NPRA was putting in place proper structures to secure funds for all contributors.

Baba Jamal, the Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, commended the Authority for the effort and cautioned them to be vigilant and not hesitate to crack the whip on any service provider who went contrary to the rules and regulations or the directives of the Authority.

He urged the Authority to build a strong regulatory body that would protect huge pension funds in the hands of the private pension managers in the future.

Mr Kofi Anokye Owusu-Darko, the Chief Executive Officer of the Authority, urged the informal sector workers to take advantage of the 3rd –Tier Voluntary Provident Fund and the Personal Pension Scheme to secure income when they are pensioned.

Prior to the opening of the Zonal Office, the Authority on Tuesday, October 18, the Authority sensitised over 250 informal sector workers on how they could participate in the 3-Tier pension scheme.
