The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has launched its 2016 Manifesto focused on reviving Ghana’s economy through the implementation of several social and economic interventions.
Below are some highlights of the NPP’s manifesto as read by its running mate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
NPP will broaden the tax base with the formalisation of the economy
NPP will abolish the taxes on kayayei placed on them by the NDC gov’t
NPP will introduce tax benefits for organisations that hire fresh graduates
NPP will abolish the 17.5% VAT on domestic airline tickets
NPP will shift the focus from taxation to production by reducing corporate tax rate from 25% to 20%
NPP will issue National ID cards in its first year
NPP will set up a financial stability council to revive the struggling financial sector
NPP will pass a fiscal responsibility law and a fiscal council will be set up to address the current level of debt
NPP will undertake an urgent and comprehensive review of SSNIT
NPP will collaborate with the private sector to create jobs
NPP will broaden the tax base with the formalisation of the economy
NPP will ensure the funds for National Pensions Regulatory Authority are used solely for the regulation of pensions
NPP will restructure SADA and they will see a new dawn of government support
NPP will establish the middle-belt authority and a coastal development authority
Every constituency will be allocated $1 million annually to be used for capital expenditure
The NPP’s one village one dam project in the Northern region will be funded by the $1m/1 constituency programme
NPP will establish a Zongo development fund aimed at investing in the Zongo communities and improving health and education
NPP will make sure that mining communities receive a higher share of mineral royalties
