The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is likely to lose the little votes it has been enjoying in the Volta Region because of the numerous infrastructure projects by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia has said.
The NPP, since the year 2,000 has steadily garnered over 100, 000 votes in the northern part of the Volta region, the region established as the stronghold for the NDC.
But in an interview on Asempa FM last week, Asiedu Nketia otherwise known as General Mosquito said the NDC is bent on stopping the trend.
He was responding to an assertion by the NPP that the NDC always abandoned the Volta region in terms of infrastructure after voting for them massively to get into power.
According to him, their allegations do not support the fact on the grounds which is the ongoing projects, including the eastern corridor road, the University of Health and Allied Sciences, educational infrastructure, an airport and many other developmental projects.
Singling the eastern corridor road out of the ‘numerous projects’, he observed that its completion will be a major attempt to spread the business opportunities concerning international trade across the country evenly.
He also pointed out that it will reduce traffic congestion on the other international roads in the country and boost economic activities in the Volta region.
That, he said, is rapidly transforming the region, and thus urged people to discard contradictory reports emerging from the NPP that the NDC was losing grip of its strong hold.
“If they think we have done nothing to develop the place, they should wait and see the vote we gather from there in the upcoming elections”, Gen Mosquito stated, believing that projects Voltarians have seen under this government will be turned into votes.
He said what Voltarians are seeing with regards to developmental projects is unprecedented, touting that no other government can compare with President John Dramani Mahama.
