Flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says the party is looking at securing a minimum of 30% of votes in the Volta Region come December.
Speaking on Nhyira Fm Thursday morning, Nana Akufo-Addo said he was unperturbed by a 1.5 million votes target set by the governing NDC in the Ashanti Region saying the NPP was equally looking at garnering a minimum of 30% votes in the Volta region in this year’s general elections.
” I don’t know what they’ve seen here but we all know that some of their estimates here do not materialise. ”
“I’m also going to the Volta Region next week. We have a target of a minimum of 30% of popular votes so they can go ahead and make their projections in the Ashanti Region.”
Vice President Kwesi Amissah Arthur at the launch of the NDC’s Ashanti Regional Campaign Task Force at the Jubilee Park in Kumasi said investigations conducted by the party reveals it is in pole position to sweep some 1.5 million votes in the December elections – 500,000 more than its earlier projection.
But the NPP flagbearer has laughed off the projection saying the harsh economic conditions in the country is enough reason to prevent the NDC government from attaining the number.
The NPP flagbearer also reiterated his party’s commitment to reduce taxes if voted into power saying his party is keen on growing the country’s economy by reducing taxes in order to attract more businesses.
” When we reduced corporate income tax during Kufuor’s era, tax revenue actually increased because enterprises expanded their businesses, did more work [and] more enterprises came in… If you want to grow the economy you need to protect the private sector operators, they are the sources of wealth creation…”
