Supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region have called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo not to appoint the Bongo Constituency chairman of the party as District Chief Executive.
They claim the appointment of the constituency chairman as DCE could create cracks and breed unproductivity in the District.
At a press conference in Gowrie on Wednesday, the NPP supporters cited Peter Awinbisa as cause of the party’s defeat December 7 elections in the constituency.
They said Mr Awinbisa’s bad leadership as the chairman of the party in Bongo was the reason for the party’s defeat.
Addressing the press, spokesperson of the supporters Jonas Apikiya referred to the constituency chairman as a dictator, a divisive leader, not transparent, mismanager of party resources, a mole and arrogant.
He said it will be a disaster if the constituency chairman is appointed as the DCE because the policies of the President will never be achieved.
NPP polled 6,800 votes in the 2016 elections with the National Democratic Congress winning the seat with 18,442 votes.
The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) polled 2,932 votes and the Convention People’s Party (CPP) polled 259 votes.
According to the supporters, the NPP chairman supported the NDC candidate in the elections.
