The posters have been displayed at the entrances to the Okyehene’s Palace
The environs of Okyehene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin II has seen fresh posters and banners of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its flag bearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, ahead of the visit of President John Dramani Mahama.
The individuals who carried out the act are not known, but a glance at the entrance and the side of the palace shows NPP posters with images of Nana Akufo-Addo, the main contender to the second term ambition of Mr Mahama.
Mr Mahama is set to pay a visit to the Okyehene today, Thursday October 27.
His visit has not been without controversy as two officials of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Eastern Region expected to be part of the president’s entourage have been banned from stepping foot at the palace.
The two executives, Bismarck Tawiah Boateng and Haruna Appau Wiredu, who are regional chairman and youth organiser, respectively, disrespected the chiefs and elders of the area, provoking a ban on them as far as visiting the palace was concerned.
The Kyebi Executive Council placed the ban earlier this year. The council said Mr Boateng, supported by Mr Owiredu, reportedly insulted the paramount chief at a press conference after he, the president of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, led a group of chiefs on a road tour of the region to bemoan their deplorable state.
Meanwhile, there is heavy security presence at the palace.
