A senior lecturer with the History and Political Science Department of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has disclosed the leading opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is still not working towards winning political power in the December 7 polls.
Kwasi Amakye Boateng explains, the party has still not been able to resolve its internal cracks, but only “shielded” it for the purposes of the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.
According to Amakye Boateng, the NPP does not have the cohesion it requires to confront the elections as a formidable political party.
He was speaking to host of Abusua Nkomo, Kwame Adinkrah.
The main opposition New Patriotic Party has in recent times gone through turbulence with internal wrangling sharply dividing the rank and file of the party.
Some political watchers hold the view that the party is now united and poised to wrestle for power in the upcoming polls.
But Kwasi Amakye Boateng says the opposition party is more divided than any other political party and therefore cannot be said to be prepared to govern the country when given the mandate to do so.
“The NPP seems united, but they are not…they are only shielding the problems because they want power and that to me is dangerous for them.”
“If they really want to win this election convincingly and maintain and formidable government, they must unite and bring all factions on board,” he added.
“The addition of Alan Kyeremanten and the rest in the party’s campaign is just for the showing, if they had included Alan in their campaign in 2012, they would win the elections and be governing by now.”
