NPP MPs To Investigate Speaker’s Conduct

The Minority in Parliament has accused the Speaker, Edward Doe Adjaho of predetermining the outcome of a motion filed by the Minority calling for a probe into the controversial Ford gift saga against President Mahama.

Minority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu claimed the ruling of Hon. Edward Doe Adjaho was prepared even before the House sat to deliberate on the matter.

He said though the Speaker has shot down the motion, they will go ahead to investigate him (Doe Adjaho) since his conduct was fully a “partisan ruling”.

“We are not happy as Minority and we will go all out to get to the bottom of this issue because we know that though the Speaker is brilliant his brilliance has really affected us” he stated.

Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu’s comments follow the minority New Patriotic Party’s botched request for a parliamentary probe into the receipt of a Ford Expedition gift by the President.

President Mahama is said to have taken a 2010 Ford Expedition vehicle valued at about $100,000 in 2012 from a Burkinabe contractor, Djibril Kanazoe, after which a number of government contracts were awarded to him (Kanazoe).

The Speaker of Parliament Edward Doe Adjaho has dismissed a motion by the Minority members of the House calling for the establishment of a bi-partisan committee to investigate President John Mahama for receiving a ford vehicle gift from a Burkinabe Contractor.

In his address to the House Thursday, the Speaker said he was forced to reject the motion because CHRAJ is the only mandated body to investigate matters of conflict of interest.

“As a Speaker I am firmly convinced CHRAJ is the only mandated body to probe this case”.

He said the Supreme Court has made a number of pronouncements regarding the exclusive jurisdiction in terms of chapter 24 of the constitution dealing with the code of conducts of public officers, including the President.

However, the Minority leader indicated that they will go ahead and establish a committee to investigate President John Mahama.
