The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has scheduled Muslim and Christian thanksgiving services on Friday and Sunday respectively “to thank God for the party’s resounding victory in the just-ended presidential and parliamentary elections”.
NPP’s presidential candidate in the elections, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, was declared winner after polling 53.85 per cent of 99 per cent of total votes cast.
One hundred and seventy-one of its parliamentary candidates also won their constituency contests.
A statement issued by the party on Tuesday, December 13 said Chief Imam Dr Sheikh Osman Nuhu Shaributu will be leading the Muslim Thanksgiving Service at the Central Mosque in Accra.
“The inter-denominational thanksgiving service takes place afterwards on Sunday, December 18, 2016 at the Accra Sports Stadium under theme Psalm 20 vrs 5: ‘We will rejoice in thy salvation and in the name of our God. We will set up our banners. The Lord fulfil all thy petition’”.
The events are under the distinguished patronage of President-elect Nana Akufo-Addo.
“In attendance at both events will be the Vice President-elect, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, all our Members of Parliament-elect and the leadership of the party.
“Members of the general public are cordially invited to these events to thank God and seek His blessings for the incoming administration,” the statement signed by National Organiser John Boadu said.
