It was a solemn ceremony as the family all clad in white honored their departed husband, father, and sibling Jake Otanka Obetsebi Lamptey at a memorial service at the Ridge Church in Accra.
The once vibrant and active National Chairman for the NPP passed away on March 20 2016 in London after battling an ailment. For his contributions which still are esteemed by party members, the party held a memorial service to mark his one year anniversary, a year after his demise.
Ghana’s Second Gentleman, Hon. Mahamudu Bawumia, the first Lady, Theresa Akufo-Addo and other party stalwarts were present at the event to celebrate the life of the fallen hero and to commiserate with the family.
President Akufo-Addo who is currently out of the country for some presidential duties, in a recorded speech played at the ceremony re-emphasized the great role Jake played in the party, adding that his demise was “the biggest gap in the party’s victory in the December elections”. According to him, though deceased, Jake will forever be missed.
Jake Otanka Obetsebi Lamptey till his demise was the National Campaign Manager of the ruling National Patriotic party during the 2000 Presidential elections and he played a huge role in securing the party’s victory in the elections at the time. His wish according to his family is that he lived to witness a second victory by the NPP in the December 2016 elections.
A get-together ceremony is being held at the party’s National Headquarters following the memorial service held this morning.
