BRUSSELS — The European Union (EU)’s foreign and defence ministers on Monday agreed on a new plan on security and defense, EU foreign affairs chief Federica Mogherini said.
Mogherini has proposed an implementation plan on security and defense, to turn into action the vision set out in the EU Global Strategy, which is intended to guide EU foreign and security policy in the years to come. (EU-Defense)
BAGHDAD — At least five civilians and three policemen were killed on Monday in two suicide bomb attacks in the city of Fallujah in west of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, a local security source told Xinhua.
The two attacks occurred before the sunset when a suicide bomber drove his explosive-laden car into a security checkpoint and detonated it at the entrance of Nazal district in central Fallujah, some 50 km west of Baghdad, killing five civilians and two policemen and injuring six, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity. MOSUL, Iraq — Iraqi security forces on Monday killed at least 57 militants of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group in and near the city of Mosul, as fierce battles continued in the city to drive out the IS militants from their last major stronghold in Iraq.
The commandos of the Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS) repelled several attacks by IS suicide bombers on the troops’ positions in the freed districts in eastern Mosul, including al-Qadsiyah and Zahraa, according to the CTS deputy commander Lieutenant General Abdul-Wahab al-Saadi. (Iraq-Mosul)
MOSCOW — A Russian military MiG-29 fighter jet has crashed in the Mediterranean Sea, and the pilot has successfully ejected, Russian Defense Ministry said Monday.
The jet crashed during a training mission as it approached the aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov for a landing due to technical failure, the ministry said in a statement. (Russia-Crash) Enditem
