— The Zambian government said it will endeavor to encourage the diversification of the agriculture sector from dependence on maize production only because it wanted to treat the sector as a business.
Minister of Agriculture Dora Siliya said the government plans to expand a subsidized farmer input support program to not only focus on maize but other crops as well to promote diversification.
Since 2003, the government has been implementing the Farmer Input Support Program, with a focus on providing subsidized inputs to maize growers. (Daily Nation)
— The World Food Program (WFP) has embarked on a project aimed at improving the nutritional status of adolescent girls in Zambia.
The project, Adolescent HIV and Nutrition, will be implemented in partnership with the Civil Society Scaling Up Nutrition.
Mathews Mhuru, WFP program officer said the project was developed after a research conducted to explore multi-level constraints and barriers surrounding HIV prevention and adequate nutrition in adolescent girls. (Zambia Daily Mail) Enditem
