LOS ANGELES — A tow truck collided with a China Southern Airlines flight just before takeoff late Thursday night, resulting nearly 1,500 passengers grounded at Los Angeles International Airport.

MOSUL, Iraq — Iraqi security forces on Friday pushed forward slowly and freed new districts in the city of Mosul from the Islamic State (IS) militants, as the extremist militants are using civilians as cover, security sources said.
The commandos of the Counter-Terrorism Service broke through the IS defensive lines and entered the districts of Qadsiyah and Baker in the eastern side of Mosul, leaving many militants killed and destroying several booby-trapped cars, said a statement by a media office affiliated to the Joint Operations Command. LUSAKA — Zambia’s parliament on Friday unanimously ratified the Paris Agreement, as officials highlighted the country’s commitment on climate change issues.

NAIROBI — The second batch of Kenya Defence Forces soldiers arrived in Kenya on Friday as the country’s opposition criticized the order to have them withdraw from South Sudan’s peacekeeping mission.
