The President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo, has reaffirmed his faith and trust in the Agric Minister, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, to lead the charge of Ghanaian farmers and restore growth and prosperity to the sector.
President Nana Addo reiterated that he had no hesitation at all in appointing Dr. Owusu Afriyie as the agriculture minister because of his potential and competence in the field.
The President indicated that on issues about agriculture and welfare of farmers, no one comes close to the current minister, Dr. Afriyie, stressing that he is counting on him to revive Ghana’s ailing agric sector and improve the lives of Ghanaian farmers.
Eulogising his childhood friend who he described as a brother, the President noted that he has absolutely no doubt that Dr. Akoto considering his passion and commitment towards the welfare of farmers, will revitalize Ghana’s agricultural sector and ensure improvement in the country’s economy.
“I think all of you here are aware of the friendship between me and Owusu Afriyie. It dates back a long ago, our parents were on the same side of the political divide, the very difficult moment for them in our history. They were swimming against the tide of the time but they believed in what they stood for and never flinched because they believed that the valued and principles they were trying to impress upon the Ghanaian people will be the values that would prevail and today we have seen that the principles and values have become the animating principles of our national lives,” the President added.
“So all through these difficult periods Owusu Afriyie and I used to have endless and interminable discussions and criticizing things that had gone wrong and saying we could do better. We have the opportunity now and we need to do better. I had no hesitation in making this appointment because I don’t think there is anybody in Ghana who has the passion, the commitment, the knowledge as well as the interest of farmers more than Owusu Afriyie,”, he emphasized.
Nana Akufo Addo, who was addressing revellers at a private dinner organized in honour of the Agric minister by his family and relatives, repeated his resolve to modernize Ghana’s agric sector.
The Agric Minister, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, on his part, said he was deeply humbled by the tribute paid to him by the President and pledged that he will do everything humanly possible to fulfill the vision and the objectives the President has for Ghanaian farmers.
