BARELY 24-hours after a former Greater Accra Regional 2016 Campaign Manager of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sylvester Mensah, revealed that he was unaware of presidential campaign posters making rounds and calling on the public to disregard them, the group behind the posters has come public.
Calling itself Believers in Sly (BIS), the group, comprising members of the NDC, maintained Sylvester Mensah was their ideal presidential candidate for 2020 having served as their role model and mentor.
BIS explained that in Sylvester Mensah’s statement issued last Monday, “he did not authorise the circulation of his poster and résumé. We are glad he didn’t say he’s not interested in leading the party. Indeed we didn’t require his permission in matters we believe would advance the fortunes of our dear party. While we agree that the focus now should be on rebuilding the structures of the party, we also believe that our voice must be heard in the determination of the next leader of our dear party.”
The statement signed and issued by six of its executives noted that it will not cease the circulation of the posters of the former chief executive officer of NHIA until he comes clear to inform them he is not interested in running as a presidential candidate when the party opens for nominations in the future.
“Until Sylvester Mensah categorically affirms his disinterest in the leadership of the party in 2020, we shall continue to promote him as our choice for the future of the party. He was publicly investigated without a single blemish or wrong doing. We have had the opportunity to read a court order and a formal letter exonerating him”, the statement opined.
The statement added that “true example of our values of probity and accountability he remains the NDC’s hope for victory in 2020. We advise all like minds and Believers in Sly to continue promoting the good cause until the time comes for choosing a new leader.”
