President of the Ghana Rugby Association, Mr. Herbert Mensah, has discounted rumours over his appointment as the next Managing Director of Accra Hearts of Oak following the departure of Hon. Vincent Sowah Odotei.
Hon. Sowah Odotei is expected to vacate his position after being nominated by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to co-deputise Hon. Ursula Owusu at the Ministry of Communications.
His departure will therefore pave way for a substantive manager to be named to aid in the continuity of the administrative running of the club.
Reports emerged last Tuesday that Mr. Mensah had been contacted by Hearts Board Chairman, Togbe Afede IV, to replace the departing managing director but the former Kumasi Asante Kotoko boss has played down reports, describing it as false rumour which should be disregarded.
He explained that “The world of football is fantastic, full of actions, stories, rumours and innuendos that require less attention to people like him.
“I did receive a call this morning. Somebody said you (Herbert) are online and apparently you are going back to football in a big way… I said not to my knowledge and he said you are joining Hearts of Oak, I said no I am not, definitely not.”
Even though he expressed his unflinching commitment to contribute his quota to the declining state of sports in the country, Mr. Mensah said his intention to return to management was farfetched.
He revealed that several sports enthusiasts have persuaded him to take up the role he left at Kotoko but he claimed his time with football was over.
