A founding member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has suggested that the nomination of a senior figure as Minister of Defence would have been preferred.
“I believe a more senior person should have been put there,” the former militaryman stated.
President Nana Akufo-Addo nominated the 39-year-old Member of Parliament for Bimbilla in the Northern Region as Minister of Defence-designate.
Mr Nitiwul was Deputy Minority Leader in the sixth parliament and also served on the Defence Committee of Parliament, but critics have raised concerns that he lacks the experience to handle the sensitive Ministry of Defence.
“I know the military well. The military has certain settings and a way they behave. I think they will be more comfortable with a very senior figure,” he added.
He added that due to his experience and knowledge of military officials, a “senior figure” would have been better.
“You are going to deal with people who are very straightforward. What they dislike is arrogance. The moment you display a peck of arrogance that is the end of you, so I will advise that he should be polite and calm in his office,” Dr Tamakloe admonished the nominee during an interview with Joy News’ Gifty Andoh on Thursday, January 26.
