The station officer of the Nima District Police Station and an investigator handling a case involving a suspected drug dealer have been detained for allegedly freeing the drug dealer while he was in police custody.
Some other persons, whose identities are not immediately known, are also said to be in detention in relation to the case.
The station officer, who has been identified as Chief Inspector Osman Agyemang, is on detention at the Tesano Police Station, while the other suspects are being held in some police stations in?Accra.
Although the Ghana Police Service was tight-lipped when contacted, sources within the service indicated that the drug baron, whose identity was not available at the time of filing this report, was arrested in connection with a narcotic case being investigated by the Nima Police last week.
The sources said due to the nature of the case, the suspect was held by the police, while investigations continued.
However, they said, Chief Inspector Agyemang and the investigator allegedly connived with the other accomplices to release the suspect every night.
Thus, instead of spending the night in police cells, the suspect is said to have been allowed by the policemen to go home and sleep in the comfort of his room each night, only to report the next morning, while they claimed investigations were ongoing.
