NON-Governmental Organisation (NGO) ‘We Care for Our Children Foundation’ has donated text books worth several millions of cedis to the Ga-West Municipal Educational Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES).
The text books which were written in local languages include Akuapem and Asante Twi, Fante, Ga and Ewe meant for KG one to primary three pupils.
Presenting the items at the premises of the Ga-West Municipal Educational office at Amasaman in the Greater Accra Region, the Director of the NGO, Apostle Micheal Ankrah said, the donation was to support GES policy of using local language to teach KG one to primary three, and also support vulnerable families who will not be able to purchase these books.
According to him, the policy mandating schools both public and private to use Ghanaian languages to teach in the various localities was a welcome news which should be embraced by all to make it a success.
Apostle Ankrah noted that his organisation had already made similar donations to some municipalities across the country.
He however, appealed to government and other corporate organisations to support the printing of the books.
“Our resources have been dissipated due to printing cost and we are calling on other benevolent individuals to come on board to enable us reach out to many schools” Apostle Ankrah added.
The Ga-West Municipal Director of Education, who received the text books on behalf of the schools thanked the Director and staff of the NGO and promised to put the books into good use to serve the purpose to which the books were presented.
