Namibia witnessed a bloody weekend when nearly 20 people died in accidents, suicide and murder, police said.
Namibia Police spokesperson Slogan Matheus told a media briefing in capital Windhoek that eight people died in accidents between Friday and Sunday.
Six of these eight died in one accident Friday night about 110 kilometers from Windhoek.
Among those who died in accidents is the former permanent secretary in the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources Uitele Hivelua.
The police also said four others were murdered, including a nurse who died on the spot when her boyfriend shot her after an argument at a bar in a small town called Otjiwarongo that is about 250 kilometers from Windhoek.
A teenager, who tried to help a girl recover her mobile phone from two men, is also one of the people who were murdered in Windhoek.
Another person was also shot dead by a workmate after an end of year party in the capital. The man was shot when his workmate went on the rampage shooting indiscriminately.
Four suicides were also recorded in the past two days, police said. Enditem
