“It is becoming increasingly annoying how the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is deliberately resisting every progressive development the National Democratic Congress (NDC) under President Mahama would take to the moslem communities. It is a clear signal that the NPP under Nana Akufo-Addo hates Zongo development,” this is according to the NDC’s Eastern regional chairman of the NDC Bismarck Tawiah Boateng.
He expressed shock at the attempt to twist the Chief of Staff’s comments to the effect that the study of Arabic is going to be compulsory.
According to him , the chief of staff Julius Debrah announced at Nsawam Zongo government intention to make Arabic an examinable subject, but surprisingly the NPP has started doing propaganda with the announcement saying students were going to be coerced to write Arabic examination.
“Arabic learning is very important, it’s going to be part of the syllabi so that moslem who study Arabic could read and write Arabic. Government has set up Arabic training Centre which is aimed at training desirous moslem Arabic. It is needful in a lot of ways that could create employment opportunities for moslem internationally,” the chairman said.
He indicated that in the past students were only taken English, maths , geography and history, but today, thongs have changed and a lot more subjects have been added to adequately shape the youth take charge of their own futures.
Addressing the imams and residents of Koforidua Zongo during the chief of staff tour of the area, Tawiah Boateng recounted a few of the projects meant for the Zongo communities that the NPP pooh – Pooh, adding Arabic education, Tamale airport to life would be pilgrims among others.
“Everything the NDC will do for moslems the NPP would resist and try to resist it, go to Kanda and go and see an ultra modern mosque the NDC administration has put up there. There is Mecca in Ghana,” he submitted.
He charged the Zongo community to reject Nana Akufo Addo and the NPP, saying they have no plan for moslems.
He urged them to vote massively for President John Dramani Mahama to continue responding to their needs.
In his welcome address Alhaji yusif andani sulleyman eastern regional chief imam thanked the President for his thought and commitment towards addressing the challenges and threats in the Zongo communities.
He also expressed gratitude at making Arabic an examinable subject.
