The declaration by the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) that it will win 13 parliamentary seats in the Ashanti region is impracticable, a political science lecturer, Dr. Edward Brenya has said.
“This target is not realistic, it is just a political talk,” the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology lecturer said Monday in an interview with Accra FM.
According to him: “Although President Mahama has done some work as far as infrastructure is concerned, Ghanaians are not feeling the developments in their pocket and this situation can affect the votes of the governing party. Yes, you (Mahama) have constructed the Sofoline interchange but the people do not feel it in their pockets.”
The President during a durbar at Apagya in the New Edubiase constituency on the first day of his tour of the region declared that the NDC “will do everything to win” 13 parliamentary seats in the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) stronghold.
The declaration, according to him, was based on opinion polls conducted by the NDC in the region.
“We have done opinion polls and surveys. I can tell you that we can get nine more constituencies in addition. So this year, we are targeting 13 constituencies in Ashanti. By God’s grace we will do everything to win these constituencies,” he stated.
