The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s Ashanti Region Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), has taken a swipe at the National Democratic Congress (NDC), suggesting that the opposition party would have marked Ghana’s 60th independence anniversary poorly if they were in power.
According to the NPP Chairman, the event that took place at the Black Star Square on March 6, 2017, would have been outshined by damaging controversies had the NDC been in charge.
Peacefmonline.com quotes him as saying, “They (NDC foot soldiers) would have been at the parade grounds in their party T-shirts and marched alongside our security forces. If you dare stop them, Aseidu Nketia [NDC General Secretary] would tell you that he has instructed them to do it and ex-president Mahama would have watched on haplessly”.
Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako adds that the event would have looked like the popular children show, Kiddafest, rather than a national celebration of Ghana’s liberation from British colonial rule with NDC in charge.
Kiddafest is an event that gives children the platform to exhibit their creative talents in dancing, singing, and other artistic expressions.
He also took a swipe at the deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Koku Anyidoho and a former Presidential Staffer, Stan Dogbe, surmising that they would have used the organisation of the event to line their pockets.
“Koku Anyidoho would have been busy for nothing, going around looking for opportunities to do the country in. Stan Dogbe would have also shifted his attention on printing souvenirs like presidential dairies and end up incurring huge debt for the nation to pay whilst lining his pocket,” he is quoted as saying by the online news portal.
Ghana’s 60 years anniversary, expected to be a modest year-long event, is spearheaded by a 30-member committee formed by President Nana Akufo-Addo. The committee is chaired by Ken Amankwah.
The event was graced by dignitaries both in Ghana and across the world.
