The former Minister of Power Dr. Kwabena Donkor has served notice the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will keep the Nana Akufo-Addo government on its toes as it takes over power Saturday.
Nana Akufo-Addo will be sworn-in on January 7, 2017, after a landslide victory in the 2016 elections.
Dr. Donkor, who is the Member of Parliament for the Pru East Constituency, said the Minority will serve the interest of the citizenry to aid national development.
“We will be a loyal opposition and defend the interest of the State and support the government of the day where the government and that of the electorate align,” Dr. Donkor said in an interview with Accra-based Joy FM.
Touching on the NDC’s humiliating defeat, Dr. Donkor apologised to the supporters, adding the leadership will learn from its mistakes in order to return as a vibrant party.
“We thought we had done enough in terms of infrastructure, but there were other things the electorate expected from us that we probably missed,” Dr Donkor admitted.
He added: “We apologise to them. We promise to work hard, go back and, reorganise and listen to them more. Hopefully, the Ghanaian electorate will give us another opportunity to serve them.
“They should stand firm and be steadfast. We are down today… out of every misfortune, there is an opportunity. It provides us with another opportunity to take a second look at how we organise the party; there were issues with our primaries and gives us another opportunity. It should strengthen us and this is the time to be resilient and be focused. The elders have taken the first right start with the Prof. Botchwey committee.”
Prof. Botchwey is heading a committee to investigate the cause of the NDC’s defeat and make recommendations to return the party to power.
