The National Democratic Congress says it has had enough of attacks allegedly being perpetuated by activists of the New Patriotic Party, and has asked its members to respond in equal measure if the attacks persist.
At a press conference addressed by the National Chairman of the NDC, Kofi Portuphy advised supporters to defend themselves when they face any attack from supporters of the NPP.
Pockets of violent attacks have been recorded in some parts of the country following the declaration of NPP candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo as president-elect in last week’s elections.
President John Mahama even had the cause to advise the leadership of the NPP to call its members to order and charged the security services to deal with persons attacking supporters of his party.
The NPP has itself condemned the attacks and said it will sanction supporters who take the law into their own hands.
Mr. Portuphy told the media that even though the police have taken some actions, they were below what the party expected, 3FM’s Mercydalyne Lokko reports.
He said the NDC will keep bringing up such issues to the public domain to alert all, including the international community.
This, the NDC Chairman explained, is to keep the international community in the know so that if their members “respond in equal measures” the party would not be blamed.
