One of Adom FM’s Central Region correspondents has been assaulted by thugs said to be members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to Seth Kofi Adjei, the incident happened at Awutu Senya East district Magistrate Court while reporting on a case.
Narrating his ordeal on Adom News, he said, he had gone to the court to report on a suit filed by the NDC against the Electoral Commission (EC) and the New Patriotic Party (NDC) Member of Parliament for the area, Mavis Hawa Koomson when the hoodlums pounced on him.
The NDC claimed the EC officer in the constituency has connived with the MP to remove some 192 members from the voter register ahead of the December 7 general elections.
Kofi Adjei reported that, while waiting outside the court room to do some interviews, a lady approached him and accused him of doing negative stories against government.
In his attempt to explain himself, he said the lady ordered some party men holding stones and sticks to beat him to serve as a lesson to others.
Kofi Adjei finally managed to catch the attention of the only policeman at the court whom he said drove the thugs away.
Afterwards, in an attempt to leave the court premises, he said the thugs tried to attack him again but he managed to leap onto a moving vehicle to escape their wrath.
Kofi Adjei said he now fears for his life since the NDC, especially those in the Awutu Senya East constituency, have vowed to deal ruthlessly with any journalist who does stories they deem anti-government.
Meanwhile the court case has been adjourned to September 27.
