Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Okere Constituency has been beaten by supporters of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
His crime was attempting to take still pictures and video footage of weedicide spraying machines that belong to the NDC parliamentary candidate for the area, Michael Ofori Ofei, popularly known as Nana Kakra, and meant for distribution to electorates ahead of the December 7 polls.
The NPP chair, Kasapafmonline.com understands, was beaten mercilessly by thugs some of whom wore mask to prevent them from being identified.
The said items were fully loaded in a cargo truck with registration number GE 142 – 12 that was parked in the house of the District Chief Executive for Akwapim North, George Opare Addo, and ready for distribution.
Owusu Agyei Pinto, NPP communications officer for Okere Constituency, in an interview with Kasapa 102.5 FM, Tuesday, said the party had for the past week gathered intelligence that a truck full of weedicide spraying items will be conveyed to the area and distributed to the electorates in an attempt to influence their voting on December 7, 2016.
“Around 9:00am we saw the truck parked in the house of the DCE. Unfortunately, our Chairman was also going to the District Assembly Office and he saw the truck fully loaded with the items. Being privy to the intelligence, he decided to monitor what was in the truck. When he was in the process of removing his mobile phone handset from his pocket to take photos of the items, he saw the DCE, Opare Addo and his father and one Ayipeh and some boys wearing mask who quickly rushed on him and demanded why he was taking pictures of the truck. He was beaten mercilessly and as we speak, he is at the Akropong Police Station lodging a complaint,” he noted.
He added “Their intention was to distribute the items to influence the minds of the electorates to vote for the parliamentary candidate and John Dramani Mahama but that will not happen. We know all the machinations they are doing and we will let the people know about how they are misusing public funds.”
