Pressure is piling on the Northern regional police commands to haul in New Patriotic Party (NPP) chairman in the region for his comments to supporters to stop ballot box stealers on Election Day.
Bugri Naabu speaking to party supporters advised that they chase and beat supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) whom he said are known for ‘stealing’ ballot boxes in the last election.
The NDC in the region is accusing the NPP of planning mayhem in the upcoming elections.
Already, some security analysts have called for investigations into the comments of Mr Naabu.
Joy News correspondent Hashmin Mohammed reports that the NDC leaders see this to be a recipe for disaster if the police watch on unconcerned as this will serve as a motivation for others to say worse.
The Regional Secretary of the NDC in the region, Abdul Rauf Halid, at a press conference Wednesday said, they believe the Regional Security Council and the national security council are on top of their game so the NDC supporters would not be intimated.
“When the NPP were in power and most of their private cars were turned into armored cars, they could not push us, not to talk about a time when they are not in power.
He advised the national leadership of the NPP to “purge themselves of the NPP which has been known with pre and post independent violence.”
He says the NPP leadership should condemn some of the statements by their leaders adding the NDC is going to do everything to protect the sanctity of Ghana’s democracy.
Meanwhile, the Joy News’ reporter says a lot of the residents are condemning the comments of Mr Naabu coming off the back of a very peaceful campaign by both parties so far as the motivation for this comments is missing on most of them.
