A deputy Communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Anthony Abayifa Karbo has accused the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) of orchestrating the story alleging that the party’s flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has cancer.
“There is no doubt that the NDC plotted Nana’s sickness long time ago and they paid that magazine to do that propaganda job and now that it has been published, they (NDC) want to run away but we have already caught them,” he stated.
He believes no member of the NPP would want to tarnish Nana Addo’s hard earned reputation by making his health status public even if there is no sign of sickness.
Mr Karbo’s comment follows a publication in Monday’s Africa Watch magazine claiming that the flag bearer of the NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, had been diagnosed with prostate cancer, acute kidney disease and an enlarged heart since 2013.
The August 2016 edition of Africa Watch Magazine was headlined “NPP’s Campaign In Jeopardy…Akufo-Addo Has Cancer”
The US-based magazine edited by Steve Mallory claims the presidential candidate of the NPP Nana Akufo-Addo, is suffering from the life threatening diseases.
The magazine in its report claimed the NPP flagbearer was diagnosed of prostate cancer in June 2013, with a high Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) count of 89.9, very much above the 3.72 upper range it should have been, according to British doctors.
The magazine claimed to have seen some medical records and they paint a dark picture of Nana Addo.
But the NPP flagbearer, citing a litany of claims made against him in the past during his ongoing tour of the Upper East region, dismissed the latest allegation, saying “….now they say I have cancer; it will not work!”
Anthony Karbo, who is also the NPP Parliamentary candidate for the Lawra constituency of the Upper West Region, called on Ghanaians to reject the African Watch claims.
He accused the NDC of paying editors of the magazine to publish what he described as a fake story about Nana Addo.
