At least 5 people have been injured in clashes between the supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Wulensi constituency in the Nanumba South District of the Northern Region.
The clashes occurred in a village called Tinangeria in the constituency.
According to an eyewitness, the clashes were sparked over the parliamentary candidate for the NPP in the Wulensi constituency, Thomas Donkor Ogaajah’s holding of a rally in the community.
He said they were confronted by some NDC supporters who unhappy with the ongoing rally ongoing by the opposition party.
“Instantly they started throwing stones at us and spoilt three of our cars,” the eyewitness said.
“They were targeting out candidate, they told us boldly that they wanted to kill him; Thomas Donkor Ogaajah,’ he added. The eyewitness, also noted that they could identify their attackers as one of the injured people could name them.
This clash is the third in two weeks in the constituency after previous clashes in a village called Garikpe when the candidate of the NPP was ambushed by alleged supporters of the NDC candidate, George Larrir Maabam.
The second one happened over last weekend in Nakpayili when supporters of the two parties fought over a piece of land belonging to the first vice chairman of the NPP. The vice chair was subsequently arrested and granted bail.
