The flagberer of the Independent Peoples Party (IPP), Kofi Akpaloo is accusing the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) of scheming to get him out of the presidential race.
According to him, his disqualification from the race by the Electoral Commission (EC) is because both political parties see him as a threat.
Mr. Akpaloo was disqualified from contesting in the December 7 general elections because the number of subscribers to Mr Akpaloo’s forms did not meet the requirements of Regulation 7 (2) (b) of CI 94.
EC Chairperson, Charlotte Osei explained that, the Commission was unable to accept Mr. Akpaloo giving reasons that “Three subscribers supported the nomination of another candidate in breach of Regulation 7 (4) of CI 94. Again, the cross subscribers have different signatures on the nomination forms raising questions as to the legitimacy of these signatures.”
But Kofi Akpaloo on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday blamed the two main political parties for being behind his elimination from the race.
He explained that, already, both NDC and NPP have stolen some of the policies in his manifesto he intends to implement if he becomes president.
“Nana Akufo-Addo stole my one district one factory policy and President Mahama also stole my promise to build stadium in every region so they see me as a threat” he added.
This notwithstanding, Kofi Akpaloo has filed a petition at the High Court praying them to order the EC to allow him correct the mistakes on his nomination forms.
He maintained that, the electoral body “did not give me the opportunity to explain to her why these three [subscribers] genuinely signed for me… To me she erred, it wasn’t right, the people genuinely signed for me”.
The IPP leader said Ghanaians cannot afford another four year under President Mahama given what he says is the unprecedented hardships Ghanaians have been plunged into under his leadership.
Kofi Akpaloo who claims to have had the advantage of interacting with Ghanaians is positive of a landslide victory if allowed to contest in the December polls.
