The Central Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs says all executives and members in the party including himself failed their party’s flag bearer, John Dramani Mahama, in his quest to seek re-election as President of Ghana.

President Akufo-Addo of the NPP secured 5,716,026 votes, representing 53.85 per cent of the valid votes cast, to beat former President Mahama, who garnered 4,713,277 votes (44.40 per cent) in the December 7 elections.

According to the Regional Chairman, the complacency of some key members in the party thinking former President Mahama had done all the work and as such the citizenry will vote massively for him led to his defeat in the polls.

“We have all let Mahama down, from top to the bottom. It should be a great lesson to us. He really did his best. There might be some mistakes, wrong decisions and policies that the people might not have understood, but as election machinery that NDC is well noted for, it failed Mahama this time drastically.

“Some of the NDC candidates were complacent. They thought Mahama had done too much work thinking the citizenry will vote massively for him. Letting the former President down is the pain we are all engulfed with now,” he said in an interview on Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’ on Tuesday.

He said the NDC party would have secured a lanslide victory if persons entrusted with party resources had worked vigorously for the party.

Allotey Jacobs further re-echoed the advise of former President Kufour that it is better to be a cleaner in a ruling party than be a General Secretary of an opposion party.

He was also confident that the NDC would bounce back in 2020.
