Leader of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), Henry Hubert Lartey has rubbished claims that he was paid by members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to vilify former Jerry John Rawlings President.
Former President Jerry John Rawlings has indicated that persons within the governing NDC financially induced Dr Henry Lartey to vilify him.
Decrying the decaying culture of respect in society, he wondered why every attempt was being made to deliberately misrepresent and sully his reputation.
Dr Henry Hubert Lartey, petitioned the EOCO and CHRAJ to investigate the former President who has confessed to receiving $2 million from the former Nigerian head of state.
For over a decade, ex-President Rawlings had maintained a tight-lip on the donation said to be part of Mr Abacha’s loot.
However, during an interview with the Guardian Newspaper in Nigeria recently, ex-President Rawlings admitted that he received the money from Sani Abacha in 1998, but denied that the amount was $5 million as some have alleged.
But Dr Lartey in an interview on Accra based 3fm said he only wants the independent institution to investigate the matter and that would not be lured by the NDC government.
“My father left me a lot of assets and no one can pay me in Ghana. My house I live in Osu behind the Christianborg castle is worth over 100 million dollars. It’s quite hilarious to hear that from my friend Rawlings, it’s an incredible allegation, he can’t prove it. Will he tell me who paid me? Was it General Mosquito or Kofi Adams? This is democracy, I dare him to. Why would I dare a former head of state if he hasn’t taken the money? Was it 2, 5, or 100 million? He should come out to say it”.
According to Dr Lartey he has accepted the challenge proposed by the ex- president to visit the traditional shrines to swear on the gods pertaining to the money he received from the Late Abacha.
“I am not scared, if you believe in God you will face any devil, anyplace, anywhere, anytime. I am not panicking; the truth will always be the truth. I am a full Christian and I practice Christianity. Moreover, I am basically an African and if we have African traditions we go through it. We might perhaps go ahead to see the national imam and the council of the charismatic churches too. The truth is always the truth and always will be the truth…” he insisted.
Meanwhile, Dr. Henry Lartey said he would organize a press conference very soon to voice out credible information against the former head of state, Jerry John Rawlings and his wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, flagbearer of the National Democratic Party (NDP) on issues he claimed are corruption based.
“Rawlings hasn’t got any intelligence, he’s portraying the typical gestures of the PNDC, and I am going to have a press conference to reveal everything I know. I have many things to say. A lot of information about Rawlings and his wife I have to let out of the bag. He cannot lie and cheat this time around” he bemoaned.
