The acting National Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Mr. Freddie Blay has accused President John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of what he described as ‘political fraud’.
Speaking with the media in Bolgatanga after meeting with parliamentary candidates of the NPP in the region, Mr. Blay said President Mahama, in spite of all the promises he made to the people during the electioneering campaign in 2012, has failed largely to fulfill any of those promises.
He also said for earth moving machines to be conveyed to a site, all in name of cutting sod for commencement of works on the Bolgatanga-Bawku-Kulmakom road and later, had the same machines taken away from site, all amounted to political fraud.
What I am saying is that there had been instances they have come to put big earthmoving machines and diesel machines here for the president to come and cut sod. After that they sent them away.
Is it fraud? Is it not fraud of the people? He never meant it.” Mr. Blay responded to a question from a journalist to explain what he meant by political fraud.
He urged the people of the region to the train of victory so they could be taken care of if the NPP won the election.
Observing that Upper East Region was an agriculture based region, acting chairman assured that the NPP government under Nana Akufo-Addo would focus on agriculture especially in the northern part of the country to transform the economy
On the claim by NDC in Walewale that Vice-Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia paid bribe to two officials of the Electoral Commission to verify his name in the voter register in his family house in the northern region town Walewale, Mr. Blay said the NPP has ignored that.
Describing the claim as laughable, Chairman Blay said the NDC made the claim out of desperation because of the magnitude of popularity Dr. Bawumia has gained in the country, especially in the Northern region, which had been the political stronghold of the NDC.
Mr. Blay and some other national executives were in the Upper East Region to interact with constituency and regional executives, as well as Parliamentary candidates of the NPP and also to find out how they are gearing up for the campaign ahead of the December polls.
