The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has indicated that it would investigate the death of former President John Evans Atta Mills when voted into power.
The party said that the numerous insults hurled at its flagbeare, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom by ‘apologists’ of the ruling NDC won’t deter them from investigating and laying bare the facts surrounding the death of late law Professor.
“The PPP has been a champion of good governance and we believe that the absence of a comprehensive investigation into the death of the then sitting president sustains the perception and the belief that something untoward occurred leading to his untimely death.
“The PPP will establish a commission of inquiry to look into the death of the former president to bring finality to the matter and put to rest all kinds of suspicions,” the party’s National Secretary, Murtala Muhammed said in a release copied to Adomonline.com.
The PPP flagbearer, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom has been at the receiving end of several attacks by known NDC members following his claim that the members of the ruling party jubilated at the death of the former Ghana leader.
Notable NDC leaders have promised to dig into the past of the politician cum businessman for implicating the party in the death of the late Mills.
But these attacks, the party’s National scribe said would not deter the party from conducting investigations into his death when voted into power.
The party insists that it would institute a committee of inquiry that would be mandated to unravel the mystery surrounding the death of Prof Mills.
Below is the full release from the party:
The Progressive People’s Party remains focused on investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of former president of the Republic of Ghana, Professor John Evans Atta Mills despite the unprintable insults from apologists of the ruling National Democratic Congress.
The PPP has been a champion of good governance and we believe that the absence of a comprehensive investigation into the death of the then sitting president sustains the perception and the belief that something untoward occurred leading to his untimely death.
The PPP will establish a commission of inquiry to look into the death of the former president to bring finality to the matter and put to rest all kinds of suspicions.
This harmless call to have this done does not warrant the vicious attacks from some members of the NDC on our flag bearer and the party.
Professor Mills was a bona fide citizen and also the president of Ghana when he died and we believe he deserves an investigation into his death to restore dignity to his person, the high office of the President of the Republic of Ghana, his family and the people of the Central Region.
Our objective to prevent what happened to a sitting president from happening again. Our cry is never again shall this happen to any president!
We are interested in protecting all our presidents from falling victim to the circumstances of the death of the professor.
A full scale investigation and the recommendations thereof will make our nation great and strong and prepare us to handle future situations more carefully and in a manner that promote sacrifice, service and loyalty to God and country from our future leaders
Murtala Mohammed
National Secretary
