Central Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs says he was subjected to vilification by his party executives from the day he was sworn in.
According to him, some elements in the party were seriously working against him and excluding him in party affairs even though he is an elected chairman of the party.
This he said contributed to the defeat of the party especially in the Central Region.
“There is a bomb on my chest and I don’t want to let it out. There are some naïve party members who do things by influence. Can you imagine that someone I contested election with where I became victorious, National and other party structures were using him more than me? I was vilified for nothing” he said.
Mr Allotey Jacobs was speaking on Adom FM’s Morning Show, Dwaso Nsem, Tuesday.
His comment follows the defeat of the NDC in the just-ended elections, which saw Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) securing 5,716,026 votes, representing 53.85 per cent, to beat Mr Mahama, who managed 4,713,277 votes (44.40 per cent).
This notwithstanding, the Central Regional Chairman indicated that they would need all the executives, from national to polling station level, to investigate what led to their massive defeat.
“I owe the party some commitment and loyalty and so I won’t disappoint my party. I became very useful because of late President Mills and Mahama and so I won’t destroy what has made me to be what I am now. It is now time for us to come together and investigate what really led to our defeat” he noted.
Mr Jacobs however, maintained that he has a cordial relationship with the former President, John Mahama and would not hesitate to convince him to contest in 2020.
