Eastern regional chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bismark Tawiah Boateng has declared war on supporters of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the New Juaben North constituency.
Mr Tawiah Boateng, reacting to a clash between supporters of the NPP and the NDC over the weekend in the New Juaben North Constituency, said NPP members in the constituency are trying to exploit the political rivalry by attacking people they have personal issues with.
“NPP members in the constituency are bent on making our lives miserable but we won’t allow them at all. This recent clash is not the first and so this is the time to stop them from killing our members. And so I declare war on any member who will attack us” he said on Accra based Neat fm.
Supporters of the ruling NDC and NPP who were on a separate health walk Sunday clashed in the New Juaben Municipality leading to the injury of at least 15.
Vehicles were also smashed in the clashes while firearms were shot by the Police to separate the feuding supporters.
Five people who sustained severe injuries were rushed to the St. Joseph hospital for treatment.
It is unclear what triggered the exchanges.
The New Juaben municipal police who went to the scene ordered the leaders of the supporters to ask their members to stop the walk and go home immediately.
However, the NDC chairman said they have given the police in the area 48 hours ultimatum to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to book.
“We want the police to arrest those involved and we are giving them 48 hours to investigate and arrest those who committed the act and deal with them, whether the suspects are NDC or NPP because they (police) are paid with tax payers money so they need to do their job very well” he insisted.
He has also ordered supporters of the NPP not to wear party T- shirts to campaign in the constituency.
