The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on the Police to immediately arrest NPP kingpin, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
The maverick Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong has been connected with the vigilante group, ‘Delta Force’.
Though he has publicly condemned the attacks by the group, Mr. Agyapong is said to be the master brain behind the lawless acts by the ‘Delta Force’.
In a statement signed by the NDC General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the party wants the Police to act swiftly on the Assin Central MP because they believe he has been fueling the ‘Delta Force’ attacks.
The NDC described Kennedy Agyapong’s behaviour on the issue as arrogant and stated emphatically that “as a matter of urgency; and to show a strong commitment to the fight against terror and terrorism, the NDC is calling on the Ghana Police to immediately effect the arrest of Hon. Kennedy Agyapong who in the full glare of public television, made it abundantly clear that he is the master brain behind the lawless acts of the ‘Delta Force’, and also went ahead to dare the State to prosecute these militants, and bear the brunt of the wrath of himself and the NPP.”
“We also use this opportunity to call on the following security bosses who have shown complete failure in dealing with this matter, to resign their positions with immediate effect; the Interior Minister, the Minister for National Security, the Inspector General of Police and the National Security Coordinator,” the party continued.
The NDC also wants President Nana Akufo-Addo to take a swift action to ensure a continuation of the trial of the members of the ‘Delta Force’, and also demand “an immediate arrest and trial of all those involved in the attack on the circuit court. That the President takes full responsibility for these actions.”
In a disclaimer on Thursday night on Oman FM, Mr Agyapong admitted that the action of Delta Force in storming the court on Thursday to free accused persons was “disgraceful”.
“They have gone overboard, they cannot take the law into their hands, I am not going to support them again,” he said.
