The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has intensified civic education in schools, on duties of the citizenry and the promotion of peaceful co-existence in the Bawku municipality and its environs.
The move was aimed at sensitising school children on the duties of citizens that would promote peaceful co-existence and national cohesion for the development of the country in Civic Education Clubs in schools in the Bawku area.
About eleven senior high and basic schools that had civic education clubs were educated on post-election community engagement and good governance which would prepare them to be good citizens and assume responsible roles to manage the affairs of the country.
Mr Roland Azumah, the Bawku Municipal Director for NCCE, made this known in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Bawku to attest the Commission’s commitment to educate the young ones on their roles as responsible citizens.
Mr Azumah said the young people were the driving force for national development, hence the need to prepare them with the spirit of patriotism to take up the mantle of leadership of the country.
He said the commission was focused on intensifying civic education activities in the Civic Education Clubs in schools and would encourage excursions to the centre of governance including the Judiciary and parliament to enlighten and broaden their knowledge on governance.
The commission had also embarked on post-election community engagement on good governance and peaceful coexistence to target Faith Based Organizations (FBO’s) such as the Churches and Mosques among others to sensitise their members on the duties of a Members of Parliament and project the need to stay in a peaceful environment.
He mentioned that as part of efforts to promote peace, the Commission was reviewing the Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC’s) meetings to strengthen democracy at the grass roots levels.
Mr Azumah called on all to see Ghana as the only place Ghanaians could be proud of and forge ahead to making it a peaceful environment that would woo investors.
