The Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress [NDC], Koku Anyidoho has kicked against suggestion to enroll various vigilante groups associated with the opposition New Patriotic Party [NPP] as National Security employees.
According him, the suggestion which has been raised by NPP’s outspoken leader, Kennedy Agyapong must not be consider by government.
“In as much as we want to employ the youth, National Security shouldn’t be a dumping ground for unemployed youth. That is dangerous. We shouldn’t joke with that, those there are trained and professional,” he said in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’.
The Member of Parliament for Assin Central in the Central Region, Kennedy Agyapong has insisted that the youth groups in the NPP are recognised within the structures of the party and must be protected, now that they are in power.
“The vigilante groups are recognized in the party and so I will personally make sure they are recruited into national security. If it is work that they need, we will gladly employ them to continue working for Ghana. Any of the Invincible Forces and Delta Forces who have no work should come to me today, we will give them work,” he said.
One of the groups, Delta Force, has come under public scrutiny following their latest attack on the recently assigned Ashanti regional security coordinator.
Before then, the infamous Invincible Force had been blamed for many atrocities on innocent citizens since the party won the 2016 elections.
The groups are believed to have rendered private security services to the NPP while they were in opposition.
Many Ghanaians, including the Christian Council of Ghana have called for the disbandment of the groups, but the parties has often justified their existence.
Speaking on the matter, Koku lamented that “Is this the low level we want to drag our national security. Is the national security now a dumping ground?”
“What training do these boys have after they have badly exposed themselves as party faithful? Are we going to paint the National Security in party colors?” he questioned.
