Running mate to the Flagbearer of the Convention People’s Party(CPP), Nana Gabby Nsiah Nketiah has intimated that the re-introduction of “apprenticeship scheme” in the CPP regime could be the best strategy that will mitigate the challenging circumstances of youth unemployment which Ghana faces.
Nana Gabby Nketiah articulating his views on the economy on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM Monday, said although fiscal consolidation is necessary for maintaining economic progression, perhaps the resolve to bring back age-long modules that existed in the past regimes can help address the economic issues confronting the nation.
“We’ve become too fixative on the GDP’s and macroeconomics; You need to go down to the blackstars days. During the CPP era, I was in the military-Boys company which set up NAP, where I got the opportunity to go abroad and enrolled with Army Apprentice School. If you didn’t have the opportunity to go to second-cycle institution, you have the option of being engaged in apprenticeship, and it should be done in all towns and communities nationwide,” the veteran politician and businessman said.
He said: “attaching the boys and girls to the head-dressing salons, dress-making, carpentry shops, farming and all that, will be the sure way to solve youth unemployment and also mitigate the problem of rural-urban drift”
Nana Gabby reiterated he’s willing to promote the National Apprentice Scheme for it to become government’s greater scope of job-creation.
“Our target is the youth and how to secure their future. The CPP is willing to make it work again. We’ll discuss this on our level as a party and lay a plan to that effect,” the CPP running mate said.
The Convention People’s Party named the diplomat, and traditional ruler Nana Gabby Nsiah Nketiah as the running mate to the 2016 Presidential flagbearer Ivor Kobina Greenstreet days ago.
He was nominated by the Central Committee of the party.
Despite being a full-blooded Nkrumaist, Nana Gabby was also a “senior aide” to ex-president John Kufuor and was awarded the Order of Volta, Companion in 2008.
Nana Gabby Nsiah Nketiah is an engineer by profession and has served both in the Ghana Army with Base Workshop, having completed service from Boys Company and British Army in the 1960s.
