Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, flag bearers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), respectively, will provide superior leadership for Ghana should President John Dramani Mahama lose the 2016 elections, a former Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Professor Stephen Adei, has said.
Professor Adei, who said President Mahama had surrounded himself with young and incompetent people in his government, told Prince Minkah on the Executive Breakfast Show (EBS) on Class91.3FM on Wednesday, September 21, that Ghana had better alternatives in Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr Nduom.
“I have no doubt at all of the capacity of Nduom or of Nana Akufo-Addo to provide superior leadership for Ghana because I’ve seen them perform. … Nduom as a private person has done extremely well. Nana Akufo-Addo’s pedigree, just like everything being said about him, is impeccable. He has been – if not the most – one of the most successful legal luminaries in Ghana.
He has been Minister of Justice [and] Foreign Affairs. …You can only predict people from their past and none of those in the race, including His Excellency the President, [can be compared] with these two people. Let us stop politicising things. I mean the quality is like day and night,” he stated.
Professor Adei debunked assertions that every presidential candidate is touted as competent before every election. He said: “Nobody said anything about him (Mahama) as a competent person. He just happened to be a vice president – our vice presidents unfortunately, are sometimes chosen for reasons other than their capacity. I don’t think that anybody in Ghana ever said President Mahama was going to be a first class leader. … Don’t let us try to make things up as we get along: he just happens…to be the luckiest man in Ghana. In his own book, he said he finds it difficult in taking decisions and a president is a decision maker.”
