The Flag Bearer of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, has scorned the use of the Nigerian actor popularly known as “Osoufia” by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in one of their campaign advertisements to tout the achievements of the President.
She described it as a desperate ploy by the ruling government in its bid to stay in power.
“Has it now got to this, when foreigners have to tell us what your achievements are?” she asked her supporters at Bole in the Bole/Bamboi District of the Northern Region.
“Can Ghanaians themselves not see your achievements in their own country for a Nigerian to be brought in to tout your achievements?” she queried while speaking to the group of jubilant supporters at Bole, President John Mahama’s hometown.
“Let us tell the President that if he cannot do it for Ghanaians to tout his praises, he should not go for a Nigerian to tell us what is not obvious,” she stated.
The ad
The campaign advertisement is tailored after the popular Nigerian movie, “Osuofia in London.”
In part one of the said campaign advertisement titled, “Osuofia in Ghana”, the Nigerian actor, Nkem Owoh, is seen walking along the Circle Interchange and beside himself with the display of decorative lights at night.
In part two of the advertisement, the actor is taken round the reconstructed Accra Regional Hospital at Ridge, where he expresses amazement at the development that has gone on at the hospital.
“This is fantastic! Jesus Christ…! Wow! All this in one hospital?” Nkem Owoh exclaims as a doctor comes in to conduct him through the wards.
In the background is the song, “Mahama yieee…onaa po 2x JM onaa po! Ede bi 2x John Mahama de bi!”
Change
“Let me show you what a woman can do,” Nana Konadu told the crowd; “I will turn lives around,” she added amid cheers and chants of shie ko shie, the Dagomba phrase for “change”.
Supporters of the NDP thronged the vehicle of the flag bearer and her entourage at Bole.
In excitement, they accompanied her in their tricycles, bicycles and motorbikes as her convoy moved along.
Campaigns
Prior to the visit to Bole, Mrs Agyeman-Rawlings and her entourage were at Fielmuo in the Sisala West District of the Upper West Region, where they interacted with the chief, people and supporters of the NDP.
The Regent of Fielmuo, Naa Danikuu, said God himself would institute a leader for the country.
He expressed certainty at the fact that Mrs Agyeman-Rawlings would be a good leader because she was following the footsteps of her husband, Flt Lt JJ Rawlings.
Ashanti revisited
The campaign train of the NDP was later at Ntonso in the Kwabre East Constituency and Moshie Zongo in the Manhyia North Constituency, both in the Ashanti Region.
Regional executives in Ashanti , including the first Vice Chairperson, Mr Anthony Kusi, and the communications officer joined some national executives, including the General Secretary, Alhaji Mohammed Frimpong; the Deputy Women’s Leader, Hajia Sarah Sallah and the running mate, Mr Kojo Mensah Sosuh, to canvass for votes.
