Mr. Joshua Akamba, a Deputy National Organizer of the NDC has slated President Nana Akufo-Addo describing his condemnation of the post electoral violence as cosmetic and a lip service.
According to him, it will still be dangerous and disgusting if the Invisible Forces continue to operate under the watch of the former Attorney General.
Mr. Akamba opined that the activities of the Invisible Forces are backed by the president hence his inability to disband the political vigilante group.
Speaking in an interview with Rainbow Radio’s Kwame Tutu, he said some members of the forces on the very day Nana Addo made a statement on the lawlessness; chased police officers with machetes, with some others blocking the entrance to the Tamale Teaching Hospital.
Delivering his maiden State of the Nation address on Tuesday on the floor of Parliament, Nana Akufo-Addo said, he does not subscribe to the lawlessness of political party supporters because their party has been elected into power.
The president said, wrong doing has no political colour hence political parties must help in resolving them.
According to him, when the attacks started, he instructed the immediate past Inspector General of Police (IGP), John Kudalor to apply the law irrespective of political affiliation to all law breakers and further instructed the Acting IGP, Asante Appeatu to do same adding, ‘’both of them acted upon it, which helped to bring the situation under control.
It appears; these events were predicated on some concepts of equalization as they happened in 2009 and were repeated again in 2017. I condemn all such conducts, and I call all political parties especially the NPP and NDC to ensure that this is the last time such undignified acts happen during the period of transition.’’ But Mr. Akamba says the condemnation is not enough when those behind it, are still out causing trouble.
‘’The Invisible Forces are wielding A-K 47 riffles and attacking innocent people, chasing after toll booths, If the police can confidently arrest these boys, prosecute and jail them without any fear or favour, then we will know that His Excellency Nana Addo, mean what he said. He can go ahead and clean his image as someone who does not support lawlessness by instructing that these men are dragged before the court and dealt with properly.
Where did they get the A-K 47 riffles from? Nana Addo should investigate that. Nana Addo as the Command-In-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces doesn’t have to encourage any parallel group.’’ He added the NDC’s Azorka Boys were not called Forces but today, ‘’we have a parallel military group wielding highly sophisticated and dangerous weapons.
Mr. Joshua Akamba said the party planned of demonstrating but called it, off because they want to give the President more time to disband the group. ‘’We have respected him and so we will give him the benefit of the doubt that we will not see the violence and attacks again.
President Mahama handed over to him a peaceful Ghana and so, he can do better than the condemnation, It is not an equal thing because we [NDC] do not go round attacking people. We are minding our business and ensure that he will fulfill his campaign promises.”
