The flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, has appealed to the chiefs and people of the Greater Accra Region to give him the mandate in the December 7 elections to eradicate the hardship citizens find themselves in.
Mr Akufo-Addo, who was addressing the Accra Regional House of Chiefs on Tuesday September 20, urged “the traditional leaders and the people of Accra to ride on the back of the Elephant in this year’s elections towards the Jubilee House”.
He explained: “Things are tough. There is no money in the system, no funds for people to set up businesses. There is no money in the pockets of citizens.”
According to him, leaders need to “prioritise policies that will make Ghana prosper”.
“We have resources to help us attain wealth but we are rather hungry and things are not supposed to be so,” he added.
He indicated that he was born in Accra and his wife, Rebecca, also hails from Accra, hence developmental projects in Ga communities were of concern to him, adding that several programmes had been drawn up by the NPP to develop the area.
He held the opinion that the country needed “to progress more than the level Ghana has attained”. “But for the last eight years, we have not had any good government to implement sound policies for Ghanaians to attain prosperity,” he lamented.
He indicated that a critical assessment of former President Kufuor’s administration would expose the underachievement of the governing party.
He stressed that “the foundation he (Kufour) created has been destroyed”.
The three-time presidential aspirant told the chiefs that “no party has people more competent to govern the nation than the NPP and if by God’s grace we gain the mandate of Ghanaians, we will turn the fortunes of the country”.
